Training and Research

With a wealth of experiences and lessons learned over the years CRHP founded the Jamkhed Institute for Training and Research in Community Health and Population in 1992 in order to formalize the training that had been provided over the years. The training centre receives both national and international participants. To date, over 2,000 international (from over 100 countries) and 9,000 national health and development workers from government, non-government and faith-based organizations have been trained. Participants include grassroots workers, doctors, nurses, government workers, administrators, and students. They receive training in the principles and practices of community-based health and development, leadership skills and personal development.

The Jamkhed Institute for Training and Research in Community-Based Health and Development offers a variety of training courses for individuals and organizations in the principles and applications of community-based primary health care and development. Courses currently available include short courses of 10 to 14 days tailor-made for organizations working in community-based primary health care. There is also a one-month course for medical students and students in allied health fields [please note that this is NOT a clinical course although limited observation opportunities may occur]. In addition, CRHP accepts medical and public health students on 4 to 6 week electives. We welcome visiting residents and physicians interested in community-based health care to work at our secondary care hospital and clinics. See appropriate application.

Research opportunities are available and in the past have included both detailed and general evaluation of the impact of comprehensive community-based primary health on populations in CRHP’s project villages. CRHP welcomes collaborations with academic institutions and other organizations interested in testing and evaluating innovative approaches on public health. Controls for studies include villages in the area that are not affiliated with CRHP.

Trainees, students, and visiting physicians will be housed in the training center in single or double rooms with basic amenities and Western-style toilet. CRHP has a well stocked library, modern computers, and TV, internet and telephone access.
Travel expenses are not included in the fees listed above, but you can contact CRHP at crhp@jamkhed.org if you need help arranging transportation to and from Jamkhed.
