If you believe in
the mission of the Comprehensive Rural Health Project then consider making a contribution
towards the achievement of these goals. There are
many ways in which people and organizations can
get involved with our work. It is amazing
how
little it takes to make a difference in the lives
of the poor and marginalized. The following are
examples to give you an idea of the purchasing
power of a monetary contribution. Each gift is
carefully chosen to assist neediest families to
sustainably advance their socioeconomic status
through their own efforts and creativity with
technical assistance and long term follow-up by
CRHP. Your gift will
go wherever the need is greatest or you can
specify your preference.
»
Build a permanent house for a poor family:
US$3000
Proper housing is
essential to improve health and quality of life.
In many cases, this is the first step to
ensuring the upliftment of the poor. Once stable
housing is provided, the families' social
standing and economic opportunities expand
significantly, ensuring greater educational and
economic opportunities for them and their
children.
»
Sponsor a village for a
year: US$2500
Allows CRHP’s mobile
health team (MHT) to conduct regular check-ups
and clinics in our project villages for an
entire year. This ensures local follow-up and
technical support for the village health worker
and the provision of more extensive medical care
directly in the village. Serious medical
problems are referred to the CRHP hospital in
Jamkhed. Besides their clinical duties, the MHT
acts as a facilitator to organize various
community groups and assist them in carrying out
local development and health promotion projects.
»
Anti-snake venom:
US$400
The CRHP hospital in
Jamkhed receives about 150 snakebite victims
each year of which 60% involve poisonous bites.
Many of these patients require rapid injection
of anti-snake serum and respiratory support to
save their lives. Unfortunately, the anti-snake
serum is extremely expensive and often beyond
the means of our patients, requiring multiple
vials that can add up to $400 before the
patient recovers.
»
Bullocks:
US$750
A pair of bullocks is
provided to 4-5 families in a village who share
the animals for use on their land. The bullocks
are essential to till the rocky soil of this
area. Having productive farm land provides these
families with food security and stable income.
Food security, in turn, guards against
malnutrition and the subsequent debilitating
illnesses that often come about as a result,
disproportionately affecting young children.
»
Start a new Adolescent
Girls Group: US$500
The CRHP adolescent girls
program organizes groups of young women in our
project villages to promote health and sex
education, self-defense, good nutrition, legal
rights, creativity, and leadership and positive
self-esteem. Regular groups and workshops are
organized in the villages and at the CRHP
compound, led by qualified teachers and
facilitators. This essential program exposes
these girls to valuable knowledge and skills
which greatly broaden their future opportunities
and allow them to become strong, self-confident
and knowledgeable women and mothers.
»
Toilet with Running Water:
$375
Village toilets reduce
open defecation and improve the local sanitary
conditions. This reduces the incidence of
diarrhea and gastrointestinal infections that
are especially dangerous in young children,
accounting for a large proportion of deaths
among children under five. Including a water
supply has been found to be an important
component to encourage and effectively promote
the use of these toilets.
»
Start a Self-Help Group
(micro-credit): US$300
Groups of women (Mahila
Vikas Mandals or women’s development groups)
have been organized in the project villages of
CRHP for over 3 decades. These groups promote
health and nutrition, maternal and child health,
women’s empowerment and social justice. The
self-help groups are a more recent
manifestation, designed to provide small loans
to its members. The loans are usually used to
help start small businesses but may also be used
for family emergencies. The members of these
groups, usually women from the poorest families,
contribute a nominal monthly fee and pay a small
interest (<5%) on all loans. This ensures a
constantly increasing group savings balance to
provide larger loans and benefit a larger
segment of the community.
»
Provide a hand pump for a
tube well: US$250

Each tube well installed
in the village requires a hand pump to access
the water from deep below ground. These hand
pumps are very durable but do require
replacement on the order of 10 years.
»
Village Health Worker’s
Field Kit: US$100
Provides a carrying case
and all equipment and medication required for a
VHW to provide primary health care for her
village. This will include basic medicines,
birth control, first aid supplies,
sphygmomanometer for blood pressure checks, and
other equipment to do basic lab tests in the
field (e.g. urine sugar/protein for diabetes and
pre-eclampsia screening).
»
Seeds for Farming:
US$100
High quality seeds are
provided to poor farmers to increase their
annual yields. This program greatly benefits the
family as well as the entire community by
increasing access to nutritious, good quality,
organically grown vegetables.
»
Cataract Surgery:
US$100

Restores a person’s
eyesight with a cataract surgery performed at
the CRHP hospital in Jamkhed. The amount covers
the supplies and equipment used in the
operation. A visiting ophthalmologist performs
these weekly surgeries on a charity basis for
the poor patients who cannot afford to pay.
»
Build a soak pit:
US$100
Soak pits have been used
since the early days of the project as an
effective means to reduce pollution and standing
waste water in the villages. After construction
of the soak pits, the number of mosquitoes and
flies, and consequently the rates of malaria and
diarrheal diseases, are significantly reduced.
Your donation will be used to help the families
acquire materials while the village's farmers'
club will donate the labor.
»
Artificial Limb (Jaipur
foot): US$75
These prosthetic devices
are designed for the rural lifestyle and are
locally manufactured by village people trained
by experts in the field. Amputees who receive
these limbs can continue to work and support
themselves and their families. Teams from CRHP
have also traveled to war-torn countries in
Africa to train local craftsman in the
construction of these prostheses for landmine
victims.
»
Goat: US$75
A family in need will
receive 2 goats to supplement their nutrition
and income. The goats will provide good quality
milk for the family and will breed relatively
quickly, producing an average of 8 goats within
three years. Goat rearing is an effective way to
raise a family out of poverty.
»
Start a chicken coop:
US$50
Provides 100 chicks to a
family to start a chicken coop. These chickens
will provide for a significant portion of the
family’s nutritional and financial needs year
after year. This includes eggs and chicken meat
for the family and market.
»
Kitchen Garden:
US$50
CRHP helps poor families
to start kitchen gardens to supplement for their
nutritional needs. This provides organically
grown vegetables. The $50 will cover the cost of
seeds and training.
»
Blankets:
US$50
Provides 5 blankets to the
most vulnerable people in our project villages
who often suffer from exposure during the cold
winter months when temperatures approach
freezing. Since many of these people do not live
in proper, well insulated housing, distribution
of these blankets is essential.
»
Water Filter:
US$40
Provides an entire
household with access to safe, affordable
drinking water. CRHP provides Biosand filters,
which have been proven to be very efficient at
purifying water without the need for electricity
or moving parts, through our Water for Life
program. All filters are constructed using only
local materials and labor.
»
Pair of School
Uniforms: US$20
Many children in our
project villages now have access to free primary
school. A requirement to attend is for the
families to purchase school uniforms. This
relatively small amount poses a financial burden
on the poorest families who may be unable to
cover this expense. Your gift will ensure that
children from poor families, especially girls,
aren't kept from attending school due to these
financial barriers.

$???
Let CRHP decide the best
use of my donation. Any amount, big or small,
will go a long way toward bringing health and
hope for the people in our partner villages.
These are just some of the
ways in which your contribution can support our
efforts for social justice and the fight against
poverty.
Apart from monetary
donations you can also invest your time and skills
by volunteering for CRHP. Past volunteers have
found this fulfilling and rewarding. At the same
time you can potentially make a difference in the
lives of thousands of people. You may have a skill
that can be of great use wherever you are or in
Jamkhed itself. If you have some spare time and
wish to volunteer please contact us and let us
know what skills you believe would be helpful. An
example would include helping us raise funds to
support and ensure the continued sustainability
for our diverse range of community-based health
and development programs or developing new
programs to further advance CBPHC (community-based
primary health care).
If you wish to
make a donation to the Comprehensive Rural Health
Project, Jamkhed, you may do so through our
partner organization, Jamkhed USA (JUSA). 100% of your donation will
be transferred directly to CRHP to support our
many programs and further our mission of
alleviating poverty and empowering the poor and
marginalized. You may also tell us where you would
like your gift to go (e.g. child development,
adolescent girls program, appropriate technology,
etc.).
